View Article  Eminent US Medical Institute uses Dyversity Image Analysis System
Scientists in the Departments of Medicine and Molecular Genetics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine are isolating proteins from the serum of Ashkenazi Jewish centenarians, their offspring and age-matched offspring controls. The proteins are extracted and then run on 1D gels stained with Coomassie blue and are also transferred onto Western blots, probed with different antibodies and then stained with Horse Radish Peroxidase. The 1D protein gels and Western blots produced are imaged and analysed using a Dyversity system, enabling researchers to detect specific proteins and establish if these are connected with a longer life.   more »

View Article  Book your place at our meeting 'ELISPOT technology: The latest tricks' - 15th October 2009
Four clearly distinct, focused sessions are planned.. Session A will cover different applications of ELISPOT that are unique to the technique and should be of general interest because it can be applied to all fields of study in which ELISPOT is used. Session B will be dedicated to ELISPOT standardization, harmonization and validation. There are three major multicenter programs ongoing and these will provide a briefing on the progress they have made. Sessions C and D are assigned to the ELISPOT reagent and instrument manufacturers to share new developments on their front. Session E is dedicated to questions and answer. Participants will be asked to submit questions before the meeting, and also to ask questions ad hoc – these questions will be discussed. The meeting has CPD approval.   more »

Are you measuring or want to measure cytokines ? , trying to optimise your technique or do you want just to make sure you are going about it the right way? This meeting aims to summarise some of the options open to you and to discuss which techniques best suit your requirements. A series of presentations from experts working in the academic, clinical and commercial sectors will compare recent developments in technologies ranging from relatively “low-tech” assays such as ELISA, Elispot and bioassays through to the “high-tech” platform technologies of various multiplex cytokine detection systems. Their use in basic science, R&D and translational research will be discussed   more »

View Article  TLRs (Toll-like receptors), NLRs (Nod-like proteins) and RLRs (RIG-like receptors), pathogens sensors of innate immunity – 9th October 2009
"Significant advances in our understanding of the innate immune recognition have been made in the last decade following the identification of three families of pattern recognition receptors: Toll-like receptors (TLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs) and RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs). TLRs are pattern recognition receptors that detect motifs or signatures from bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi. NLRs detect mainly intracellular bacteria and RLRs detect viral genome. These three families of pattern recognition receptors comprise the front line of defence that the host possesses against microbial pathogens. The aim of this meeting is to provide an overview of these three families of receptors and provide the most recent advances in the area of innate immune pattern recognition". Chairs: Dr Martha Triantafilou/Dr Kathy Triantafilou, University of Sussex, UK   more »
